There is so much lip service paid to the concept of work/life balance that how you might actually achieve it gets lost. Assuming you're not into living in a small cabin on a piece of land that you farm for sustenance, you expect to work. You may, in fact, really enjoy making a meaningful contribution to the lives of patients and the community. You want to live well. But you don't want to do it at the expense of burnout and missing out. Below are some of the ways we intend to help you create a great life/work harmony.
If you read the previous section on False Dichotomy you saw how we have created a system that allows you to earn a significant percentage of the overall practice profits. We won't go into the specifics here. Know that compensation is structured to reward you for providing great patient experiences. We expect the Leaders to out earn the vast majority of dentists, be they owners or working for others.
Perhaps the greatest issue for many owners is the loss of income when they take time away from patient care. In our system your piece of the profits will be available even if you take time off. Sure there is a reduction over longer periods for income, but it is considerably less than the near zero income that a typical owner experiences.
Everyone needs time away to recharge, refresh, and explore interests. Burnout is the consequence for not tending to the mental recovery and recharging that we all need. As mentioned above, your income continuity will go a long way toward enabling significant breaks.
Since you are a Leader, there aren't any formal restrictions for how much time away you can take. This is something you and your Co-Leader will discuss and plan as desired.
Depending upon the hours of operation, you and the other Lead may choose to work only 3 days a week. They might be long days. But having 4 days a week off would more than make up for them. This scheduling will largely be set by you and your Co-Lead.
Note:
As the practice grows and other non-Lead dentists are added, they can take some of the times you and your co-Lead have been covering. With your share of the increasing profits from the practice growth (including associate and hygienist production), your income is likely to increase even as you shorten your own patient care hours.
The present office we are recruiting for is in South Bend Indiana. Home to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Before you outright reject the idea of relocating to South Bend, I would recommend you investigate, with an open mind, what the area offers.
US News & World Report just selected South Bend as the 25th best place to live in the US. There are good reasons for this high ranking.
Believe me. If someone told me I'd end up living in South Bend Indiana some years ago, after a life time living in the Chicago suburbs, I would have absolutely thought they had lost it. Now I think it is the single best move I could have made. Click below to see some of the many reasons why I believe so. Living in South Bend can absolutely change your financial future and standard of living.
As a Lead dentist in the practice, you have a second dentist as a sort of operations partner. Someone else who helps carry the load of leadership. As a member of the StarMaker team you get the full support of myself and other experts to assure smooth operations. You shouldn't be spending loads of personal time dealing with the office.
We have created systems for nearly everything. If it has a high impact on operations and patient care, we've created a process for it. We train the team to the process. When everyone follows the processes, smooth sailing and low stress. We expect 5-star reviews. The team will be trained to make that a reality to the best of their ability. They are there to support the patients and support you.
